Principal’s Message Chugwater Schools is transitioning into a Professional Learning Community that makes education relevant to everyone involved and seeks the collaboration of Staff, the Community, and Students. Numerous of avenues are available for everyone to express their concerns and ideas for the betterment of this school and its population. We all must be passionate, alive, and zealous in providing opportunities for each student to develop academically, socially, and behaviorally. We will continue to standardize District curriculum and have made great strides to make curriculum and instruction relevant to the student’s needs and the expectations of our great Nation. Throughout this flurry of change and improvement, the Staff remains highly cognitive of the holistic needs of our students, their families, and the community in general.This year Chugwater Schools will implement a comprehensive Wellness Policy that incorporates the eight components of Coordinated School Health Program. This Policy will have positive impact on all aspects of our student’s lives. A healthy person tends to learn better and faster, and develops lifelong learning skills and habits.Yearly Progress and North Central Accreditation remains as a high priority of both Chugwater Schools and Platte County School District #1. Learning isn’t possible unless we physically and mentally come to learn, and actively participate in the learning process. Chugwater Staff, Community, and Students will review this Handbook at the start of each school year in the true spirit of the Professional Learning Community; and any changes or additions will be made and documented or added as supplemental information. Items that are statutory law or board policy will not be altered unless it is made more stringent. All parties are encouraged to participate in the self-governance of policies, regulations, and expectations of Chugwater Schools.
SCHOOL HOURS8:15-3:15 Elementary School, Junior High, and High School Please note supervision will not be provided before 8:00 each morning except for the 21st CCLC Breakfast and Tutoring Program starting at 7:15 each morning. After school tutoring will begin at 3:15 and end at 4:15 Monday through Thursday.
CLOSED CAMPUSThe campus is closed at lunchtime for ALL CHUGWATER STUDENTS. Students wishing to leave campus for lunch will only be released to Parents/Guardians or for outside agency appointments approved in writing the Parent/Guardian prior to the appointment. Seniors will be allowed to leave campus upon approval of the Principal no more than two times in any week.
BUILDING VISITORSAll visitors to either the High School/Junior High School or Elementary School must check in the Secondary School Office upon arrival at the school.
STUDENT GUESTSYou are not allowed to bring a student “guest” from another K-12 school or pre-school to Chugwater School. This applies to all school activities except sporting events and music programs.
HALL PASSESStudents must have a hall pass from a teacher to be in the hallway during class hours. Planners can be utilized in place of a hall pass.
DRESS CODEStudents are expected to dress appropriately while in school or representing our school at activities away from our building. There is a correlation between dress and personal appearance and the way students conduct themselves in school. Clothing that is revealing or distracting will not be permitted at school or school activities. Any staff member can refer any student they feel is in violation of the school dress code to the principal. If the principal determines the clothing is inappropriate for school (violates the dress code), the student will be asked to change the clothing, call home, or be sent home for appropriate clothes. Refer to the complete Dress Code Guideline in the appendix.
BACKPACKS/BAGSAll backpacks are to be left in your locker during the school day. Backpacks left in the hallway will be removed to ensure meeting the fire code.
STUDENT COMPUTER USAGEThe primary goal of Chugwater School in providing computer training is to ensure that students are exposed to the best technology the District can provide. All students re required to sign an Internet Users Agreement in order to access the Internet. Any student who violates this agreement will not be allowed to use any computer in the building (length of suspension will be determined by the violation or student action). If a student plays Internet games or music, he/she may lose computer privileges. Refer to the complete District Computer User Agreement in the appendix.
EMERGENCY DRILLSEmergency drills will be conducted periodically during the year. Students will be informed where they need to go during any particular drill by their Classroom Teachers, Principal, or other Staff Members. The students and staff are to remain at their assigned locations until told it is clear to return to normal activities. It is a violation of federal and state law for a student to activate a fire alarm if no emergency exists.
PHONE USAGEStudents are urged not to use the school phone during class time and only for important school related business or emergencies. Students need a pass to use the office phone. Wireless Communication DevicesChugwater Schools will comply with Platte County School District #1 School Board Policy File: IIBH - Dated: January 2, 2006. Personal Wireless Communication Devices should be secured in their lockers.
CD PLAYERS, ELECTRONIC GAMES, BOOMBOXES, AND OTHER PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICESStudents may not have these items with them during class time unless it relates to the curriculum outlined in the course syllabi. If students bring any of these items, it must be kept in their lockers.
DRINKS, CANDY, GUMStudents will not be allowed to have candy, drinks (pop, juice, etc.), or gum in the classroom hallway and classrooms. Bottle water is the only exception! These items are to be consumed in the commons. If a teacher wishes to have snacks in his/her classroom, the snacks will need to be stored and consumed in their classroom only. No items brought from outside the school will be allowed past the Commons Area in accordance with the Platte County School District #1 Wellness Policy.
SCHOOL CLOSING OR CANCELLATION OF SCHOOL ACTIVITIESIf weather or other situations require that school be closed or an activity be canceled, all parties will be informed by listening to KYCN or KZEW radio.
STUDENT ATTENDANCEPROCEDURES FOR ABSENCEStudents are expected to be at school every day. If a student is absent, a parent/guardian must phone the school office by 8:45 to report his/her student’s absence. Upon return, they must present a written note to the office, from their parent or guardian explaining why they were not in school. Students who are in school in the morning and leave during the day must present a note to the office from their parent or guardian to pre-arrange the absence. Without a note, the student will not be allowed to leave the building. Students will not be allowed to leave the school with anyone other than their own parent/guardian, unless advanced arrangements have been made in writing with the office. Failure to follow these rules will result in an unexcused absence. After the fifth unexcused absence, at the County Attorney will be notified of failure to comply with the compulsory attendance law of Wyoming. UNEXCUSED ABSENCEAny student who is absent or unaccounted for without an approved excuse by Chugwater School is considered truant. A student who remains on school grounds, but is not in his/her assigned classroom/location may be considered truant. TRUANCYAny student who is absent and unaccounted for will be considered unexcused and truant. The Sheriff’s Department and County Attorney will be informed if a student is truant. Under state law, five (5) unexcused absences constitutes habitual truancy. TARDIESStudents are to report directly to class if they are tardy. Teachers will make the appropriate entry in Power School, identifying the student as tardy.
ELIGIBILITY AND ATTENDANCE FOR ACTIVITIES/ ATHLETICSCO-CURRICULAR AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR PROGRAMS PhilosophyStudent activities in co-curricular and extra-curricular programs are a vital part of the total educational program and should be used as a means of developing wholesome attitudes and good human relations, as well as knowledge and skills. ApprovalAll co-curricular and extra-curricular programs must be approved by the Principal. Wyoming High School Activities AssociationThe Board will annually review its participation in the Wyoming High School Activities Association (WHSAA) and appoint representatives to it. By approving membership, the Board agrees to conform to the Rules of the Association. SupervisionPrincipals have responsibility for naming sponsors for all activities. The superintendent will present extra-duty contracts for these sponsorships to the Board for approval. Sponsors for activities, where at all possible, shall be employees of the school district. Principals have responsibility for ascertaining that all school activities, at home or away, are adequately supervised and conducted in an orderly manner. Staff members may be appointed to assist the principal in the supervision of activities. ParticipationParticipation in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities will be reserved for pupils enrolled in the school district. Participation in extra-curricular activities will be voluntary. Students participating in activities represent the school and community. They are subject to the district's policies and regulations as a condition of involvement in the activity. Handbooks which outline the district's policies and regulations related to activities shall be issued by Principals, after approval by the Board. Students participating in activities also are subject to any specific rules set by the activity sponsor with approval of the Building Principal. Eligibility rules shall be issued by the Administration that minimally conform to the eligibility rules of WHSAA. These rules do not take effect until ratified by the Board. Parental permission and a physical at family expense will be required for participation in all interscholastic sports programs. The district will furnish most essential equipment. Limitation on Activity TravelTravel for co-curricular and extra-curricular activities will be permitted to in-state activities when the activity is approved by WHSAA. The Activities Director will notify all coaches/sponsors. All students will abide by the procedures of the ACTIVITY CONTRACT.
ELIGIBILITYGrades will be reported on the Power School program on the first Monday of each week. If a student is failing two (2) classes, he/she will be ineligible to participate in ANY ACTIVITIES/ SPORTS until the following week. Ineligible students must participate in a tutoring program approved by the failing teacher for one hour per day. Students will become eligible once all failing conditions have been resolved and they resume adequate academic status. Students will be notified if they are ineligible. MAKE UP WORKIt shall be the responsibility of any student who has been absent to contact each teacher to obtain make-up work and to cooperatively determine when the make up work shall be handed in to the teacher. Students will receive two school days for every excused absence to make up missing work or it will be counted incomplete.
GRADINGGRADE SCALEChugwater School will operate under the PCSD#1 grading scale. REPORTING TO PARENTSThe school will operate on a semester grade reporting system for the Secondary. The semester grades will be reported on a report card that will be sent home at the end of each semester in January and May respectively. The school will operate on a quarter grade reporting system for the Elementary. The quarter grades will be sent home at the end of each quarter in October, January, March, and May. Parents may check on their child’s progress at anytime by using the District’s POWERSCHOOL. Contact the Power School Administrator at 322-5480 for access codes and passwords. PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCESParent/teacher conferences will be held as per the school calendar in November. Parents may be asked to meet with school personnel to discuss a students work progress at any time deemed necessary. Parents may request a meeting with the principal or a teacher(s) at any time. FAILING GRADES PROGRAMThe students will be notified by their teachers when they are failing class (es) and will be placed on a down list. It will be the responsibility of the student to meet with the teacher and set a time for remediation. This will allow the student to get one-on-one help with his/her class work. HONOR ROLLSStudents will be placed on one of three honor rolls depending on their grade point averages.
STUDENT SERVICESCOUNSELORThe school counseling program is a proactive, preventative and student centered program established to meet the needs of students. The school guidance program will offer services to students and their families for social, emotional and intellectual growth. Services offered by the guidance program are open to all students, parents, and staff. MEDIA CENTERThe media center is an important resource for Chugwater School students and will be open during school hours. Specific rules regarding checking out materials, fines, etc. will be posted in the Media Center areas. SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAMChugwater School offers a school lunch program. Parents and students are reminded that Chugwater School campus is a closed campus for all students. A parent may take his/her child to lunch if they notify the school in advance and personally checks the student out and back in when returning. Students may purchase lunch credit by giving the school secretary their money. Students may not charge lunches. LUNCH COSTSDaily K-6 Students $2.00 7-12 Students $2.05 Adults $2.75
SCHOOL NURSEThe nurses’ office is located in Chugwater School Secondary building. A schedule shall be announced and posted at the beginning of the school year. Any student injured or ill should report or be reported to the nurse or office to receive first aid. The nurse or office will notify the parents/guardians if necessary.
STUDENT INSURANCEPurchase of student accident insurance will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian. The district, through a local agent, will offer a policy that parents may purchase. This plan is not compulsory, but all students competing in competitive athletics and physical education should be covered by insurance. All students in the district covered by catastrophic injury insurance provided at district expense.
SCHOOL BUS PROCEDURESPolicies regarding rules, regulations and routes for students riding Platte County School District Number One school buses will be governed as follows: · The driver is in full charge of the bus and students. · The privilege of students to ride a bus is dependent upon their behavior and their observance of the rules. · Rules and regulations while riding school buses. 1. Follow directions the first time they are given. 2. Stay in your seat with both feet on the floor while the bus is in motion. 3. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself, inside the bus, and out of the aisles. 4. No foul language, rude gestures, loud talking, or tobacco/alcohol use on the bus. Do not eat, drink, litter, write on, or damage the bus in any way. A small snack, such as a candy bar, may be consumed at the sole discretion of the bus driver. 5. Students will be referred to their building principal for disciplinary actions. Parents will be contacted when a student has lost the privilege to ride the bus for misbehavior on the bus. · In the event of poor weather, the principal or designee will determine if the trip will be completed or cancelled. After departure, the bus driver is in complete charge and will determine whether to continue the trip, return home, or spend the night in a safe location. It is the responsibility of the bus driver and coaches/sponsors to notify the transportation director or building principal of any problems or changes in estimated time of arrival to Chugwater. STUDENT LOCKERS Students will be assigned a locker and the number will be registered with the office. This locker is school property and the material stored inside personal property. The school administration may inspect school lockers without prior notice of search. (Policy JFG) Students are responsible for the care of the lockers. Damaged lockers will be repaired and/or cleaned at the student’s expense. Students are encouraged to report damage to their locker as soon as possible. If not reported it will be assumed the assigned student is responsible for all damages. Lockers must be cleaned out at the end of the school year or upon a student withdrawing. TEXTBOOKS Textbooks are furnished by the school district and are issued at the beginning of the year. These textbooks remain the property of the school and are loaned at no charge. Students are held accountable for those textbooks checked out to them. If they are damaged or lost, fines will be assessed for the damages or losses. The fines must be paid before the end of the school year. In the event the student refuses to pay his/her assessed fines, report cards will be issued, but permanent records will be retained until all fines are paid. MONEY/VALUABLES Please do not bring large sums of money or valuables to school. Lockers are not a safe place to keep items of high value. If you do bring items of high value to school, please give it to a teacher or the office for safekeeping. During physical education classes and athletic events, students are urged to check valuables with their teacher or coach. LOST AND FOUND All articles left outside, on floors, and in locker rooms or classrooms will be turned into the office. Students who are missing items should check with the office or in the designated lost and found location. END OF YEAR CHECKOUT On the last day of school each student will be given a checkout sheet. This checkout sheet must be presented to each of the student’s teachers and the librarian to determine if there are fines. If fines are assessed, they must be paid before the last report card is entered in the permanent records. STUDENT ACTIVITY CONTRACT All students and their parents will be required to sign an activity contract that states the student will follow the rules set by the school. (See the copy of the contract in the appendix) FIELD TRIPS All field trips will be planned well in advance of the trip date (at least one week), with the approval of the principal. A list of students going on the trip must be turned in the office at least one day in advance of the trip. Except under unusual circumstances, only school owned vehicles are to be used on all trips. Bus transportation arrangements are to be made at least ten (10) days prior to departure. All students are required to have their parents/guardians sign a field trip form giving them permission to take part in the trip and have completed insurance questionnaire on file prior to departure. Any special rules for an activity trip will be printed on the specific field trip form. Trip sponsors have the right to call the police or call the parents/ guardians and have them arrange for return transportation for their child at the parents/guardian expense under unusual circumstances. Upon return from the trip, the sponsor(s) will report any misconduct to the principal. In the event the trip will be delayed due to non-planned circumstances (i.e., weather, mechanical problems, or event lasting longer than planned) the sponsor will notify the principal or director of transportation so a note can be placed on the appropriate door of the school to inform parents of the trip status. This information will also be submitted to KYCN and KZEW radio for broadcast. INTRAMURAL SPORTS Parks and recreation will be offering activities for students to participate in throughout the year. See the newsletter for information on the various activities. INTERSCHOLASTIC SPORTS All 7-12th grade students at Chugwater School are eligible for participation in athletics. Sports offered at Chugwater School are volleyball, girls basketball, boys basketball, and track. All students who participate in athletics must meet all eligibility and training rules and have a completed, signed physical and completed insurance questionnaire on file in the school office prior to participation in the first practice. STUDENT COUNCIL Chugwater School has a student council. All students in the school with a 3.0 grade point average or higher are eligible to serve as a class representative. ASSEMBLIES All students will attend all announced assemblies and will be accompanied by their teachers. Students will conduct themselves, displaying appropriate audience behavior at all times. STUDENT RECOGNITION Students will be recognized throughout the school year for academic and athletic endeavors. WORK Assigned work is due on the DUE date. Any work that is turned in after the due date, will be assessed a penalty. Late work from 1 – 7 days will be assessed 10% (this means that the best the assignment could get is 90%), 8-14 days will be assessed 20%, and over 14 days will receive a ZERO (0). Homework will be meaningful and staff will insure that the assigned work will meet a standard or benchmark and is not just “busy work”. Homework is a critical part of several core subjects and should not be taken lightly. DISCIPLINARY RULES AND BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS While attending Chugwater School we want students to enjoy their educational experiences and have an exciting and safe place to learn. Students are expected to conduct themselves properly at all times. Our rules apply in the classroom, on school grounds, on buses, at bus stops, at all school activities, and special events. When you are referred to the principal for misbehavior, you will be told what was unacceptable about your actions. You will be given an opportunity to explain your version of the incident. Consequences may include: a warning, loss of a privilege, detention, in-school suspension, or out-of-school suspension. Parents will be notified when you are sent to the office for discipline reasons. See the disciplinary charts on the following pages for details.

TARDY—We believe that punctuality and attendance are habits that help insure academic success in school. Students who develop these habits eventually become valuable employees in the workplace. Dependability is a personal quality that can be learned. The following expectations are held for students to help maximize academic success as well as prepare for life beyond school. Students are expected to: · Be on time for every class, meeting, and/or activity. · Be prepared for every class, every day. Being prepared means having your books, supplies, and assignments. Parents will be contacted for all In School/Out of School Suspensions. BOARD ACTION
DEFINITIONS OF DETENTIONS (ASD) AFTER SCHOOL DETENTION—Times will be before and after school. Transportation arrangements are the responsibility of the student. Students may not be excused except in the case of a medical emergency which can be verified. (ISS) IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSION—ISS is used as an alternative educational program on the school site during regular school hours. Students are required to bring the necessary materials and lunch or lunch card to spend the day completing their course work individually. (OSS) OUT OF SCHOOL SUSPENSION—If circumstances warrant, students may be suspended from school and sent home with their parents for a specified number of days. (SS) SCHOOL SERVICE—School service must be completed during non-academic time with the custodial staff in a non-mechanical activity for a specific period of time. Must be completed within the specified amount of time given or the student will be considered as having uncooperative behavior. This will lead to further consequences. (AP) ADMINISTRATIVE PROBATION—Before a student is taken before the Board of Trustees for an expulsion hearing he/she may be placed on Administrative Probation. This probation contract establishes conditions that must be met by the student in order to remain in school. Failure to abide by the contract will result in an expulsion hearing before the Board of Trustees.

There seems to be a correlation between dress and personal appearance and the way students conduct themselves in school. Clothing that is revealing or distracting will not be permitted at school or school activities. Any staff member can refer any student they feel is in violation of the dress code to the principal. If the principal feels that clothing is inappropriate for school, the student will be asked to change the clothing, call home, or be sent home for appropriate clothes. If the problem remains uncorrected, or is repeated further, disciplinary action will be taken. Lost class time will be made up. Students are to conform to the following guidelines concerning appropriate dress and grooming.

I, _______________________________, while participating in Chugwater School Activities/Athletics agree to: · Attend all practices and meeting faithfully. · Contact a coach/sponsor personally before the practice or meeting if I must miss it. · Faithfully attend all competitions in uniform or proper dress. · Contact your coach/sponsor personally if I am unable to attend a competition or event. · Be a resident of the school and a full time student. · Maintain my eligibility and academic standing, by meeting the standards in the Chugwater School handbook…which states: 1. Eligibility will run on a weekly basis only. 2. If a student is failing in two (2) classes he/she will not be allowed to participate in the following week’s activities. 3. The Failing List will be turned in on each Monday and will be in effect for the week. 4. Once a student is placed on the failing list, his/her name will not be taken off until the next week’s eligibility list. · Replace any equipment or uniform issued to me, either by payment or the equivalent of the lost article. · Turn in before the first ATHLETIC practice, a physical and completed insurance questionnaire. · Have a pre-arranged, pre-signed school permission slip to ride home with parents from competitions, etc. · Will be in attendance the full day of a competition or full day before a Saturday competition (unless excused for a doctor’s appointment). Students must attend the last practice prior to any competition (unless excused by the coach). · Will arrange transportation home within THIRTY (30) minutes arrival at the school. The coach/sponsor should not have to wait any longer.

COMPUTER, COMPUTER NETWORKS, AND INTERNET ACCESS Acceptable Use Regulations and Licenses File IIBG-R
This document is a framework for responsible, considerate, and ethical behavior expected of students by the District and extends to cover use of District microcomputers and workstations, general-use computers, use of District network resources, and use of networks throughout the world to which the District provides computer access. BACKGROUND—All use of the District’s computers and computer networks must be in support of education and research and consistent with the purposes of Platte County School District #1 Use of electronic communication and computing facilities/equipment, including telephone, computer systems, voice mail, and paper mail, is provided as a privilege and exists to support research and instruction. Constitutional protections for freedom of speech and the principles of academic freedom apply to the use of the system. Protections provided through patent, trade secret, state and federal laws may also apply. HARASSMENT—Hate mail, harassment, discriminatory remarks, and other antisocial behaviors are prohibited. Any use of the district’s computers or computer networks to transmit materials likely to be offensive or objectionable to recipients is prohibited. Users of these systems must take care not to create an atmosphere or discomfort or harassment for others. Users must agree not to publish on or transmit over any computer or computer network any information that violates or infringes on the rights of any other person. Users agree not to submit, publish, or display any defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, racially offensive, or illegal material. COMMERCIAL USE—Any use of the District’s computer or computer networks for commercial or for-profit purposes is prohibited. Computing and network resources of the District may not be used for commercial purposes or for financial gain. ACTIVITIES PROHIBITED BY LAW—Any use of the District’s computer or computer networks to facilitate illegal activity is prohibited. Computing and network resources of the District may not be used to conduct any activity or solicit the performance of any activity that is prohibited by law. OFFENSIVE MATERIAL—Use of the District’s computers or computer network to access obscene or pornographic material is prohibited. Platte County School District #1 provides through connections to the Internet access to other computer systems around the world. Users and parents of users specifically understand that the District does not have control of the content of the information residing on these other systems. Some systems may contain defamatory, inaccurate, obscene, profane, sexually orientated, threatening, racially offensive, or illegal material. Platte County School District #1 does not condone the use of such materials and does not permit usage of such materials in the school environment. Users knowingly bringing such materials into the school environment will be dealt with according to the discipline regulations of Platte County School District #1, and such activities may result in termination of their access to Platte County School District #1 computers and computer networks. CHARGES—Users are responsible for charges incurred while using the District’s computers or computer network. Platte County School District #1 assumes no responsibility or liability for any charges including, but not limited to subscription charges, long distance charges, per minute (unit) surcharges and/or equipment or line costs incurred by users while accessing the District computer or computer networks. COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL—The illegal copying or installation of copyrighted software for use on the District’s computers or computer networks. The District presents for use many programs and data which have been obtained under contracts or licenses saying they may be used, but not copied, cross-assembled, or reverse-compiled. Users are responsible for determining that programs or data are not restricted in this manner before copying them in any form, or before reverse-compiling or reverse-assembling them. If it is unclear whether you have permission to copy such software, assume that you may not do so. Duplicating software that is protected by copyright is a violation of the law. Additionally, violations of authorial integrity, including plagiarism, invasion of privacy, and unauthorized access to files will not be tolerated. HARDWARE/SOFTWARE—Malicious use of the District’s computers or computer networks to develop programs that harass other users or infiltrate a computer or computing network and/or damage the software components of a computer or computer network is prohibited. Hardware or software shall not be destroyed, modified, or abused in any way. Any software having the purpose of damaging other user’s systems or the computers/computer networks (e.g., computer viruses) is specifically prohibited. Building administrators at their discretion reserve the right to refuse posting of files and to remove files. Building administrators further reserve the right to immediately terminate the account/computer privileges of users who misuse the hardware/software provided by the District. E-MAIL—All electronic communications and information on the District’s computers and computer network are personal property, but users should not assume that these communications are indeed private. Users should assume that any message they send is permanent and may be read by persons other than the intended reader. Electronic messages may be subject to subpoena or public records requests. In fact, the sender of electronic messages should not assume a level of privacy that does not exist. Users should not transmit material that may be copyrighted, licensed, or otherwise protected by law. EXCESSIVE USE—Excessive use of the District’s computers or computer network for non-work activities is prohibited. Users must avoid tying up computing resources for excessive game playing or other trivial applications such as sending frivolous or excessive e-mail or messages, printing excessive copies of documents, files, images, or data. STORAGE—Diligent effort must be made by users to monitor and delete files form their personal directory to avoid using too much hard disk space. The District has the right to monitor hard disk space and remove user files. Building administrators reserve the right to set quotas for disk usage on District computers and computer networks. Users who exceed their quota will be advised to delete files to return to compliance. Users who remain in non-compliance of disk space quotas will have their files removed by designated staff. If a user creates or maintains electronically-stored information which is important, the user is responsible for seeing that the information is frequently backed-up. INVADING THE ACCOUNTS OF OTHERS—Electronic computer accounts are to be used only b y the authorized owner of the account for authorized purposes. Users shall not intentionally seek information on, obtain copies of, or modify files, other data or passwords belonging to other users. Attempts to log into a computer or network system using another user’s account or as a systems operator will result in termination of user’s rights to use the District’s computers/network systems. Users must not intentionally seek information about, browse, obtain copies of, or modify files or passwords belonging to other people. Additionally, users must not attempt to decrypt or translate encrypted material or obtain network privileges to which they are not entitled. Vandalism, too, will result in cancellation of privileges. TERMINATION OF AN ACCOUNT—The District reserves the right to remove a user account or to deny users access to District computers or computer network. Misuse of electronic communications or computing facilities may result in the withdrawal of use privileges. Violations of these regulations may also result in additional sanctions arising from violation of local, state, or federal statutes, or applicable Board rules and regulations. Prior to suspension or termination of privileges, or as soon after as is practicable, the building administrator will inform the user of the suspected breach and give the user an opportunity to present an explanation. Building administrators reserve the right to suspend or terminate a user’s access to and use of District computing equipment. NO WARRANTY—The District makes no promises that its computer equipment will meet the needs of the user. Platte County School District #1 does not warrant that the functions or the services performed by staff, or that the information or software contained on the District’s systems/equipment will meet the user’s requirements or that the operation of the system will be uninterrupted or error-free or that defects in the system/equipment will be corrected. The District’s computers and computer networks are provided on an “as is, as available basis.” INDEMNIFICATION—Users will not hold the District responsible. Users agree to indemnify Platte County School District #1 and staff of any losses, costs, or damages, including reasonable attorney’s fees incurred by Platte County School District #1 and staff relating to, or arising out of any breach of these regulations by the user.
After you have read and discussed the Platte County Acceptable Use Policies and if you so choose to agree and abide by them, then sign this document and return it to your school’s administrator. A signed document must be on file in order for your child to use District computers or computer networks.
